It seems every direction we look we see ancient stone walls being reclaimed by the earth. It’s part of the beauty and charm of the smaller villages here in France, especially during the winter season. Besides the odd town resident sighting, it’s mainly what introduces life and colour into the otherwise quiet and stark concrete backdrop of each town. This photos is taken from the front facade of a home in a very small town called Chaumussay and nearly the only area of stone left uncovered.

Route planning at Les Frippieres. Thank goodness for Ken and Linda Mason, who so thoughtfully supply each cottage with a heafty pile of area brochures and maps of places to visit in the Loire Valley. We wouldn’t have had the opportunity to visit quite as many places as we did during our stay, without help. The area is chalk full of great villages, chateaus, parks and roads to explore.

Books. Some of the little home sweet home touches that each Gite owner leaves for their guests. It’s interesting to see how the selection of books, movies, magazines and just decor in general vary from one owner to the next.
